Root Canal Treatment
Advancements in technology and anesthesia have made root canals much more comfortable for our patients. During a root canal, we eliminate infection from the tooth to ensure your smile remains healthy over the long term.
Root Canal Treatment in Charlotte, NC
Typically, the hard enamel on the exterior of your tooth safeguards its internal structure. However, bacteria can infiltrate the tooth through a deep cavity or injury, leading to serious infection. Root canals treat these infections and preserve your tooth.
A root canal procedure involves removing infected tissue, blood vessels and nerves from inside the tooth. Dr. Pollack will clean and medicate the canal to promote healing. Often, you’ll get a crown after the root canal to protect the tooth from further damage.

What type of dentist does root canals?
Root canals are generally performed by endodontists, who specialize in treating the inner parts of the tooth. However, general dentists, like Dr. Pollack, are also trained to perform root canal treatments. The choice between a general dentist and an endodontist depends on the complexity of the case and the dentist’s expertise.

How long does a root canal last?
A well-performed root canal can last a lifetime, but it typically requires good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups to maintain its success. The placement of a dental crown after the procedure also contributes to the longevity of the treated tooth by providing additional protection.

Can you drive after a root canal?
Most patients can drive themselves home after a root canal, especially if they only receive local anesthesia. However, if you receive sedation or more extensive anesthesia, you’ll want to have someone else drive you. We will provide specific instructions before your procedure.
